Baltersan: An (I’m)Possible Project
A personal note about difficult odds, unexpected encouragement and the determination to keep going.
Restoring a castle that has stood abandoned for centuries is not a conventional project. It is expensive, slow, uncertain and at times intensely personal.
The original article compared the task with the image of holding a bridge against impossible odds. The point was not heroics for their own sake, but the effect that support from other people can have when the scale of a task begins to feel overwhelming.
From isolation to fellowship
After the restoration story began to reach a wider audience, messages arrived from people who admired the willingness to attempt something difficult. Those notes changed the feeling of the project: Baltersan no longer seemed like one person standing alone in front of a ruin.
That idea eventually became part of the Fellowship of Baltersan — a community defined not by ancestry but by a willingness to help keep a piece of heritage alive.
We keep the bridge by refusing to let the story end with the ruin.
